What do your evenings look like? Do you head straight to the gym after work, come home to cook a delicious dinner, spend some time on a hobby, and head off to bed at a fairly reasonable hour? If so, I applaud you and would like to know all of your secrets.
If not, you’re probably a lot like me. I’m Ashley, and I’d love for my evenings to be spent that way. More often than not, however, I skip the gym, eat soup and grilled cheese for dinner, and consider my “hobby” keeping up with what’s going on in ShondaLand (and sometimes the Kardashians).
I recently read a post on The EveryGirl titled “What Happened to Hobbies?” that made me realize that my current routine isn’t the routine I necessarily want. The writer, Daryl Lindsey, challenges us to
“…think about the things that make you happy. The things you keep saying you want to pursue ‘when you have more time.’ Then, pay attention to how you spend your free moments. Are you wasting them on things you don’t even like that much?”
While I do love both television and grilled cheese, these aren’t really things I’d like to hang my hat on, so I thought about what I really love. It didn’t take long to realize that I have three hobbies that I’ve consistently enjoyed my entire life – cooking, writing and reading. I already do a fair about of cooking and reading (though not as much as I’d like), but I’ve really missed writing since I decided journalism wasn’t for me, which brings me to blogging.
Blogging is one of the only platforms that can bring together the things that I love, and something I’ve been planning to try “when I have more time.” Well, now is finally when I am making that time.
So welcome to AshleyLC, where I am claiming my own little corner of the internet. I’m not completely sure what’s to come, but I hope you enjoy discovering it as much as I will.
