Happy Friday, y’all!
I am going to take a page out of some of my favorite blogger’s handbooks and start a Friday Favorites post. The idea is to share the things throughout my week that made me smile, but that I didn’t get to share in a separate post. As you can probably tell by my favorites below, these are going to be all over the place.
- Operation Christmas Child
I am usually very strict about doing anything Christmas related until after Thanksgiving, but Operation Christmas Child is the one except to that rule. My company works together to fill shoe boxes for this incredible charity every year.
Their mission of is “to demonstrate God’s love in a tangible way to needy children around the world…” They carry out this mission by delivering shoe boxes of gifts to children. I spent my lunch break on Tuesday buying gifts to put in the boxes, and left feeling so happy knowing that I’m giving the joy of Christmas to children who may otherwise have not gotten it. I’m filling my boxes with dolls, race cars, coloring books/crayons, sunglasses, and tote bags.
If you interested in donating or creating a box, you still have time! National collection week ends November 23. Find out more here.
Charlotte’s Assistant City Manager, Hyong Yi, lost his wife to cancer last year. As a tribute to her, he is passing out 100 love notes in Uptown today. The project is also encouraging everyone to post a love note on social media with the #100lovenotes to help spread the love even more.
A few quick love notes from me to
- Adam, for making me smile every day since I met you.
- Mom, for being my rock in all things.
- My grandparents, who I miss every single day.
- My friends, for being the best group of people I’ve ever met.
- The Queen City, for being the best place to live and constantly coming together with projects like these to support community members. I cannot imagine a better place to live.
You can read Yi’s love notes on the project’s website, here.
- When packages arrive early
When I know a package is on the way, I watch the delivery tracker daily willing it to come early. In this age of technology, the estimated delivery tends to spot on so when a package showed up a day early yesterday I nearly jumped for joy.
I opened my mailbox to find my first shipment from Dollar Shave Club. I recently decided (thanks to very clever advertising on their part) that good and affordable razors shouldn’t be just for men. I’ll keep you updated on the actual quality of the product, but so far I’m liking the bimonthly $6 price tag a lot.
SkinnyTaste is far and away my favorite website (and cookbook) for new recipes. I can’t even begin to count the number of recipes I’ve tried from the website, all of which have been amazing. In fact, I’ve tried so many that I didn’t realize I had made the muffins before until I bit into one and recognized the taste.
Well, they were just as good the second time around. The 12-muffin batch has had me satisfying my chocolate craving for breakfast and dessert all week.
That’s it for me this week, what have been some highlights of your week?
